About Me
Bre is a working theatre artist, actor, director, designer, and educator. With skills that span both on and off stage, Bre is able to bring a rich background to any role she takes on, creating characters in both classic and contemporary settings. Most recently, Bre has appeared in The Wizard of Oz as the Mayor of Munchkinland (and many other roles), and costume designed The Lion King JR. Some of her favorite credits include Venturewell in The Knight of the Burning Pestle, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and Susanna Walcott in The Crucible.
Bre received both her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Studies and Literature with a Writing Emphasis and her Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Working with director Walter Elder, designer Niffer Pflager, and educator Susan Baloun, Bre was able to gain a plethora of knowledge that deepened her connection to the theatre arts. She is a certified teacher in both Minnesota and Iowa, licensed to teach English and Speech in both states.
After a year off from performing due to her intensive master's program, Bre made her return to the stage back home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in the fall of 2023. Joining a magnificent cast of former students and current friends, Bre was cast as the Mayor of Munchkinland, a tree (dream come true!), a winkie, and a solo Ozian in The Wizard of Oz at Theatre Cedar Rapids. The show ran for 23 performances throughout the holiday season, bringing a record-breaking number of audience members to the theatre.
Bre is thrilled to be working in theatre with local schools again after coming back home to Iowa. She recently designed costumes for The Lion King JR at Kennedy High School, then helped bring the neighboring Washington High School's rabbit dolls in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane to life. Next, she will be working with Jefferson High School, her alma mater, designing and building the costumes for their spring production of Mary Poppins.
After a school year filled with costume designing, Bre will be directing a youth production of Alice in Wonderland at Theatre Cedar Rapids over the summer. Her afternoons will be spent teaching various themed theatre camps, including Costumes and Cosplay, Harry Potter, Young Actor's Studio, and more. This is her 9th year teaching at Theatre Cedar Rapids, and she couldn't be more proud of the work she is doing and the magic she is creating through the education program there.
Bre is incredibly lucky to have grown up in a space where the arts are celebrated and plentiful, allowing her to gain skills working with all ages, genders, and ethnicities from a young age. She found a home in the healing nature of theatre, and strives to create a welcoming space for those she works with both presently and in the future. Not one to back down from a challenge, Bre can and will bring her all to every role that she is given; no matter how big or small the project is.
